BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack (turbocharger speculation..)
Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
Good to see another big block bmw build
M30 current Comp 9.3;1? what are plans for this, fellow friend had mahle 8.5;1 with metal gasket, 1 bar, turbonetic t60, msd ignition, 400hk 600nm
can't wait to see what this badass build has results

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
I believe comp is 9,0:1.
For the first season I'm using orginal short block (twincharged), valvetrain might get some upgrades but still aiming for 500-600hp, should be a safe number
Later if more power is needed, I'm going to build a new engine with forged internals.

Few aluminium bits I made recently, these should keep feet still and reduce the heat radiated from the gearbox or exhaust:

Monday update:
Finally I got all the seat mounts welded and made a bracket for a hand brake, it's time for paint soon!
Driver fits and driving position is somewhat cozy and roomy, I like:

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
Very progress what colour is this in mind
Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
I believe color will be something dark, gloss or semi-gloss
Recently I've been working with the dashboard..

Model covered with aluminium tape and wax:

Gelcoat layer:

Fiberglass:

And couple of foam reinforcements:
http://s187.photobucket.com/user/mice32 ... a.jpg.html
Finished mold:
http://s187.photobucket.com/user/mice32 ... 7.jpg.html
Thick layer of gelcoat into the mold:
http://s187.photobucket.com/user/mice32 ... a.jpg.html
One layer of chopped type fiberglass and one layer of braid type as reinforcement:
http://s187.photobucket.com/user/mice32 ... j.jpg.html
Aaand the product right from the mold. Gelcoat had melted the paint which made the surface look strange But the result otherwise is decent, little bit of sanding and grinding.. Weight was 3kg.

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
Here's one big update from the past month:
Made an inner fender for 650mm tire but it also allows me to use even bigger and wider tire if necessary:
Side panel's wheel gap also found it's shape. This 615mm diameter wheel looks a bit tiny with stretched tyre...
I had to photoshop a picture which demonstrates upcoming wheel setup
Sidepanel still needs to be finished with filler before taking a mold:
Trunk picture, IC water tank on the left, battery on the right side
Intercooler water tank and fuel surge tank pretty much completely welded:
Radiator air outlet location:
Spent few moments measuring M30 head:
Good fit, afterwards I decreased the port size a little bit. I think it's ready for cutting:

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack
A couple of combined updates from the past year I've forgot to post
Car was prepared for the primer last summer:
I started to mockup front fenders:
Spent few moments with the sketch, this is how things should come out during winter:
Got the first fully adjustable CrMo control arm prototype "assembled", missing a couple of bushing and a spacer. Complete kit weighs less than half of the orginal setup, but has the same rigidity.
Flat floor determined the skirt dimensions, floor will be about 20mm off the beams in front end with rubber mounts. Ride height I'm aiming is about 80mm.
Lot's of foam and fiberglass stuff ahead... Made one little foam piece between the door and engine bay/wheel well, nice round edge for a better air flow, not to forget about the looks:
2016:
I've been searching for a suitable turbocharger lately, it's been too damn cold at the garage to do anything without keeping it warm continuously
At first I was looking for a Precision 6766, but then I noticed BorgWarner has released their new SX-E series, which might be a notable rival being also a little bit cheaper.
The one I'm interested is the S369 measured at 69/91mm comp and 74/80mm turbine.
I was wondering if anyone is running an older S366 in their M30B35 for reference? I'd like to see dynographs and boost/backpressure charts..
In case there's no info available, I'd probably go for a T4 1.00 A/R housing as my engine will be +10:1 CR revved up to 8k and supercharger will be helping at the low end
Ideas, suggestions, help?

That's one wicked beemer.
On a side note, have you seen Anders turboshaft bike over at www.mobackenracing.se ?

Thanks bop!
Yeah, I follow Anders' project at the Jet and Turbine owners -board I've been thinking of making a new turbine project too...

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack (turbocharger speculation..)
Earlier I inquired about S300 series turbochargers, but calculations proved there's no big enough turbine housings available, so... I had to look for something bigger obviously, the next step was S400 series.
S467 met my requirements, but I wasn't sure if it would fit at all. Luckily I found one for testing, with 5" intake pipe:
This is a cast wheel unit with regular comp cover, I'll probably get the FMW billet unit with race cover:

Re: BMW E30 Street/TimeAttack (turbocharger speculation..)
Tack tack!
Time for a turbo manifold! First I decided I'll make an equal length manifold, it seemed to be an easy job, but... After fitting the collectors and all the pipes into the engine bay it wasn't so easy anymore, especially cyl. 2-3 were really bitchy. After few hours of thinking and trying I got them cut and every pipe was equal length It SHOULD work like a charm. Few pics:
Turbo flange, transition piece made of 51mm OD pipe, 3-1 collector and 42mm OD primaries:
Ready for welding:
