I have a b230A engine, its had a hone, new mahle rings. Head is used apart from its been apart checked, and had one seat and guide. I have filled it with millers comp running in oil and tomorrow was going to start it and let it warm up.
my friend is saying, dont do that as the rings will glaze over, you need to jack it up and put it in first gear, go threw the gears to put some kinda load on the engine.
Whats the best way or a good way for a b230 engine. thanks
how to run in a new build?
Re: how to run in a new build?
If you google this subject you will see articles saying that you shouldn't be too soft on the engine.
Here's one exampel https://www.thumpertalk.com/articles/en ... know-r707/
Personally I think this is good advice

Re: how to run in a new build?
thanks
i was always told to be very careful with it, but it seems wrong.
i was unsure as the b230 i have has a heavy flywheel, and just presumed it being a "road" engine it would need to be careful.

Re: how to run in a new build?
Yes, you SHOULD be careful - as in carefully following the process of letting the engine warm up thoroughly and in following the described pattern of alternating between loading the engine and letting it coast. The rings need to be seated, regardless of if it is a road or a race engine. Treating it softly will not accomplish that.
The web page I linked to above refers to bike engines, but the process is the same for car engines and there are pages to be find describing that.

Re: how to run in a new build?
no matter how you do it the rings will be seated.
but rings seal under pressure. so a good amount of power is not wrong.
BUT these b230 i have seen all variants, and they all work.
just go out on a normal drive but without lowend-torque-driving.
these engines are very forgiving!! just run it!!
i always follow the builders advice on run-in.
but i have had all fron run it 4 hours, to run it full from beginning in the dyno. and all of them comes to the same result.
just go for it.

Re: how to run in a new build?
