Do you think it's possible to modify a HX40 exhaust housing like this?
What metal is best for the valve?
How well does the valve need too seal between the scrolls?
BW type is only type that might work , DPUK type that some americans also make is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.
Maybe 15 years ago almost every truck racer in Finland tried "spool valve" but there is a reason no one is using it anymore.

Why? I had planned to try that with a new manifold for a big turbo RB26
Maybe the reason why the conventional spool valve is not used often is because it chokes the engine to much at low rpm and cannot spool the turbo with enough efficiency so you lose to much torque trying to create torque. This is a shit explanation but hopefully you get my point.
I have a SXE 364 with 80/73 turbine. I cant imagine it choking up on 400 hp and 1.01 housing with spoolvalve closed. Not that difficult if it doesnt work and have to change the collector.

You need open exhaust manifold with divided housing , that already is very stupid, you lose the benefit of divided housing , then you add that valve to hurt flow efficiency even more. Yes, it might make more boost down low but it makes even more backpressure = no power.
A proper setup works better than a quick spool valve.
But in my case, i have ha 6.5td v8 were the crossoverpipe goes into passenger side manifold. cyl no8 doesnt like that with stock turbo making 2:1 backpressure at 15psi so i put on a hx40 and lost all spool.
So, i made a very crude looking qsv, but it still works.
Gives me boost 3-400rpm earlier, where I need it. But it builds backpressure fast if it opens late.
