Sute, You could use the 5 cylinder oil pump if You are worried that the 4 cylinder pump will be to small.
The new 5 cylinder dieselengine oil pump is the largest, about 50% higher displacement then Your stock pump.
Next in size is the 6 cylinder engine oil pump (2000 and up model) followed by the 5 cylinder RNC petrol engine.

Well, this might be the reason for my continious rod bearing problem. Anyway it will be interesting to see how the original oil pump will cope with larger clearance..

Christer: Just wondering if you have Volvo product number for that 5/6cyl (+diesel engine) oil pump? Thanks!

Hej. Vi har 8-8,5 hundradelar i vevlagerspel och 6 hundradelar i ramlagerspel. Oljan som används är Castrol edge 10-60.
Vi har ett kolvspel på 18 hundradelar.

I asked from Darton their opinion should the sleeves be decked or left protruded over the deck. This is how they answered:

"Hello,

We recommend decking the block flat with the sleeves. The reason the sleeves are originally left up from the deck is to make sure they are completely seated. If you are concerned about extra sealing from the head gasket we would recommend running a copper O-ring in the block to help with sealing the head gasket.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best Regards,

John

Hej sute.

Hi ulf,

Did you encounter the leakage from the head side ("above the gasket") or the cylinder side ("beneath the gasket"). What do you think, would VHT copper cement gasket help on this? I have this kind of head gasket, with separate steel o-rings that have "nails" on head side and that intrude 0,07mm into the head:

The problem is that the block expand more than the sleves when the engine gets warm, witch makes the clamping force betwen the sleve and the head very smal, and water leeks in to the cylinder or cylinder pressure out into the cooling system. The engine will be tight as a drum betwen the head and the block, as that clamping force will increase.

Sute, I would think that your gasket and a flat block works. Think it like this, a plain copper gasket has the same hardness both on the top of the block and on the sleves. When you use a gasket like cooppering or navalinea you have softer material over the block and harder on the sleves. The rings over the sleves stay compressed the same amount and if the block around sleves rise a couple of 1/100mm the softer gasket material will just be compressed a bit more, without decreasing the pressure over sleves.

With a plain copper gasket the block will lift the head and the pressure over the sleves decrease because the gasket has the same hardness over the whole block.

Andre,

You wrote down my philosophy on that Navalinea gasket working principle.. :thumbright:

The softer material is actually three layer composition but "softer" than the steel rings for sure.
