Project 84 242 Turbo Bonneville Saltflats Landspeed car

wanted to share this project with the guys in Sweden.
This car is being built for Landspeed racing at the Bonneville Saltflats.
started out as an everyday driver before i decided that it was time to set the record straight here in the US for those who think that Volvos can't compete with the other imports.
as a Volvo shop owner for over 20 years i figure that it was only natural for me as former street racer growing up in SoCal to bring this Volvo to the forefront and show the guys here in the US that even 20 year old technology can still give them a run for their money.though not having the resources for parts here in the U.S has made somewhat difficult.
but not impossible.I embarked on making custom parts to make this engine roar after lots of $$$ spent.
here are some pics of the car being built from the very begining.
The car started out as a very clean 1984 242GLT.

Engine: B21 stroked to 2.34 Ltr
Carrillo connecting rods
JE 8.5 -1 coated pistons
Garret GT42 Turbo
Spearco air to water intercooler.
TDC custom made dry sump oil system
16V-R sport cylinder head,highly ported with Enconel valves for int/exh.
Web cams custom ground camshafts
Custom engineered cam drive system to ensure precise timing at all times and avoid belt failure.(wich proved to be one of the problems experienced with the original drive system).
custom made sheet metal intake housing 8 injector drives.
Fuel System: EFI Technology X3 # Sequential injection with 8 injector outputsand Electronic Dash display.
Distributor-less ignition with 4 coil outputs (direct or CDI)
Twin Weldon pumps supply (Methanol) to the injectors.
Drivetrain:
G-Force 5 speed custom made transmission
Tilton custom made Bellhousing w/hydralic cylinder.
Tilton 3 disc clutch system
Carbon Fiber driveshaft
Currie Enterprises Ford 9` custom made differential with Watts Link setup.
gear ratios 2.50,3.0 and 3.25 FOR final Ratios.
Suspension.
Truechoice Race custom made coil over in front with Eibach springs
Rear: Koni coilover shocks
Taxi style front control arms w/urethane bushings
rear control arms replace with custom made Rods and spherical bearing. .
Brakes: Wildwood Draglite front and rear disc designed for drag racing use only.

hoping to get it ready for Speedweek in august.but running behind do to availability in parts.but we can always run it at the World finals in October.

Hello Calle,
i chose the B21 do to the slightly thicker cylinder walls.
and also i had this engine built already at the time naturally aspirated,so i decided to go turbo instead.just had JE make a new set of pistons to lower compression,change the cylinder head from an 8V to the R-sport 16v and added the turbo.haven't weight in the car yet.
to answer your question regarding your M56 transmission,you may inquire with some sources in Sweden or check with Quaife engineering.

i`m very impressed of your work! really great right through... i see you have a very rare 16valve r-sport head. and thats porno for a gearhead from sweden that likes old volvos :hihi:
one question, how big turbo are you going to use?

Jol,
the blue tank is for water and ice and there is also another tank like in the truck next to the fuel cell

its taken me 5 years to get to this point while trying to run a business at the same time.i only have a few hours a week the i can dedicate to this project

Thanks weber,
we started out with a Turbonetics T76,but it was to small for this engine.then we went to a Garret gt 42 type and it did the job and have some more left over.we are now going to change the wastegate because the old one could not handle the bigger turbo. so far it has made 600hk@ 10 psi of boost @ 7000 rpm.we still have to try again with the new wastegate. our goal is 850hk.it should make 850hk with ease @ 20 psi of boost.

thanks LarC,
the blue tank holds ice water for the intercooler.there is also a secondary tank in the trunk.
